TradeDoubler flies in to manage first affiliate programme for Cathay Pacific
10 November 2008
TradeDoubler, the global digital marketing company, today announced that it has been appointed by leading international airline, Cathay Pacific, to exclusively manage its affiliate marketing programme.
The deal will see TradeDoubler initially launch the programme in the UK in January 2009, with a view to rolling out across Germany, France, Italy and the Netherlands in time. It's the first time that Cathay Pacific has engaged in affiliate activity and TradeDoubler was appointed on the strength of its expertise in the affiliate market, without a competitive pitch.
The affiliate programme will be used to complement Cathay Pacific's existing online efforts, which include an extensive search engine marketing campaign and rich media online experiences, and is intended to help boost online ticket sales and drive Cathay Pacific's competitiveness in the Internet sales market. Faced with rising fuel costs, growing passenger numbers and the threat of low-cost airlines, Cathay Pacific is among a number of premium airlines that are increasingly looking at more cost-efficient channels like affiliate marketing to drive sales and Internet presence.
David Paice, marketing manager, UK and Ireland at Cathay Pacific, said: “It is now paramount for any airline to have an affiliate network and we have high hopes for the programme we are putting in place. Affiliate marketing has proven to be an extremely successful revenue generation channel, with the potential to account for up to 20 to 30 per cent of an organisation's total online revenue, so we simply couldn't afford not to do it. When it came to choosing a supplier, there was no question TradeDoubler was always our number one choice.”
Ben Wood, UK managing director at TradeDoubler, commented: “We are thrilled that Cathay Pacific has chosen TradeDoubler to play such a fundamental role in developing its online marketing strategy and launching its first affiliate programme. Affiliate marketing provides an economical option to companies such as Cathay Pacific to improve their global reach and return on investment, and this deal is one of many we've signed in the travel market this year alone. We are confident that our partnership with Cathay Pacific will ensure its online presence and sales really take off.”
The Cathay Pacific programme is the latest addition to a growing list of new business wins by TradeDoubler in the travel sector this year. Other notable accounts wins include, Hotel Club, Rates To Go, Hotel Connect, Travelsphere, Page & Moy, British Airways, Just For You and Jet2Holidays.
